I 1940 bhris bád ceannaíochta Ollannach síos deich míle siar ó thuaidh ó oileán Gola le criú 18 mairnéalach Ollannach. Bhí aimsir millteanach ann an oíche sin le fórsa stoirme NW 10 le farraigí 30 troigh móide. Glaodh ar Bhád Tarrthála Árainn Mhór cúnamh a thabhairt. Nuair a tháinig an criú le chéile ag an stáisiún dúirt an coxswain John (Jack) Boyle leo mar go mbeadh an pasáiste chomh fealltach, thuig sé má chinn aon duine den fhoireann gan dul. D'aontaigh criú an bháid tarrthála uilig an tarrtháil a dhéanamh. Éist le scéal iomlán an tarrthála iontach seo a d’inis Brian MacGloinn ag an nasc seo.
In 1940 a Dutch merchant boat broke down ten miles NW off Gola island with a crew of 18 Dutch sailors. The weather at the time could only be described as horrendous with a NW storm force 10 with seas of 30 feet plus. The Arranmore Lifeboat was called to assist. When the crew assembled at the station the coxswain John (Jack) Boyle told them as the passage would be so treacherous, he understood if any of the crew decided not to go. The lifeboat crew all agreed to carry out the rescue. Hear the full story of this amazing rescue told by Brian MacGloinn at the link below.
